Once, much of what we now call London was open heathland where cattle were grazed. Today, the remaining segments of the heathland are prized and protected . Woods, deer, acid grasslands (one of the rarest habitats in the UK) , ponds, a windmill and an Iron Age camp are all for the exploring on this summer evening ride. We use only the permitted cycle paths across the Commons and the route is almost entirely traffic-free. The ride finishes in the beer garden of the Hare and Hounds in East Sheen.
