The route to Oxford is as lovely as the city itself. We ride out of West London on cycle paths through parks and quiet roads to the rolling hills of the Chilterns. Here we enjoy the woods, the red kites gliding in the sky above us and the beyond pretty villages. Once off the scarp slope and onto the plain of Oxford, the ride is purely pastoral, a timeless land of green fields where cattle graze. As a day out from the capital, this is hard to beat. The route is demanding in that it is a fair distance over the hills and along some gravel tracks.
